Fragment
A solid bronze sculpture modeled on the unique inner topography of the brasiletto tree.
Hematoxylum brasiletto, also known mexican logwood, is native to Mexico and South America. The specimen obtained was a very old 6 ½' trunk. The wood is exceptionally hard, light coloured on the exterior and darker with some deep red on the inside.
The image of the inner surface was captured via 3D scanning and then realized in bronze. The enigma of the ancient tree seems to be revealed only by the interior of the tree and is witnessed by exposing its inner structure.
